New Delhi, 13 December 2022, Tuesday

The country's largest car maker Maruti Suzuki on Monday launched the country's first mass segment flex fuel prototype car. The company has developed this flex fuel engine in its popular car Maruti WagonR. Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari was also present during the car launch. In line with the government's clean and green initiatives, the WagonR flex fuel prototype is designed to run on any ethanol-petrol blend between 20 percent and 85 percent fuel. The car has been designed and developed locally by engineers from Suzuki Motor Corporation and Maruti Suzuki. The WagonR Flex Fuel prototype gets an advanced engine designed specifically for ethanol-blended petrol. New fuel system technology has been developed to make the engine compatible with ethanol blends, heated fuel rails for cold start assistance and an ethanol sensor to detect ethanol percentage. Additionally, keeping in mind the durability of the vehicle along with the engine, other mechanical components such as engine management system, upgraded fuel pump and fuel injectors have been developed along with updating.

Maruti Suzuki said it has developed an engine management system strategy and admin sectoral systems to comply with BS6 Phase-II emission norms. "To develop this type of technology for the first time for Indian conditions and to fully meet stringent emission norms, Maruti Suzuki has undertaken extensive evaluation of this technology in the Indian market with Indian ethanol-blended fuel," the carmaker said.
