Electricity demand grew by 10 percent in Q1, with further increases expected in the coming months


New Delhi: Referring to the 10 percent growth in electricity demand in the first quarter of the current financial year, Union Power Minister RK Singh said that this growth will continue. Demand has increased by 8 percent during the last financial year. The state of power connectivity and power supply in the country has significantly improved.

Power supply in rural areas has increased from 12.5 hours in 2014 to 20.53 hours now, while it is 23.78 hours in urban areas. The production capacity has increased to over 185 GW. With this, the country has moved from a power deficit situation to a surplus power generation situation.

India's power generation capacity has increased to 416 GW, reducing the power deficit to 0.2 percent from 4.2 percent in FY24. Work on 51 U thermal power capacity and 120 U renewable energy is going on in different phases. India will not hesitate to increase thermal power generation capacity to meet the growing energy needs of the country.
