India ranks 127th out of 146 countries in terms of gender equality, WEF report shocking revelation

India's ranking in terms of gender equality has improved slightly. However, India still lags far behind the rest of the world. India's ranking is 127th out of 146 countries in the world. This information has been given in the report 2023 of the World Economic Forum. Compared to last year, India's ranking has improved by eight points this time. In the World Economic Forum's 2022 report, India was ranked 135 out of 146 countries.
Improvement in India's ranking
This latest WEF report states that India's ranking has improved by 1.4 percentage points and eight places this year compared to last year, indicating an improvement in terms of gender equality. Although there is a very low pace in terms of economic participation, India has reached only 36.7 percent. At the same time, the gap in the total gender ratio has decreased by 64.3 percent.
It may take 131 years to close the sex gap
The report said that gender equality had reached a high level before Covid, but its pace has become more stable and slower. So far no country in the world has achieved complete gender equality. The top-9 countries included in the ranking have covered 80 percent of the gap. The report said that it would take around 131 years to close the gender gap in the world, compared to 169 years for economic equality and 162 years for political equality.

India lags behind these neighboring countries
When it comes to gender equality, neighboring countries Nepal, Bhutan, China, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh rank much better than India. Bangladesh ranks 59th, China 107th, Nepal 116th, Bhutan 103rd and Sri Lanka 115th in this index. While Pakistan is ranked 142. The World Economic Forum report said the best performer among countries around the world was Iceland, which reduced the gender gap by more than 90 percent for the 14th year in a row.
India's improvement in such matters
The report states that equality in terms of wages and income has increased in India, while the participation of women in positions and technical roles has decreased compared to the previous year. At the same time, in terms of political empowerment, India recorded 25.3 percent equality, the highest since the report came out in 2006.
Women's political participation is very low
However, if we look at the participation of women in ministerial positions in countries around the world, it is very low. 75 countries of the world have about 20 percent or less women ministers. Countries such as India, Turkey and China have less than seven percent of female ministers, while countries such as Azerbaijan, Saudi Arabia and Lebanon have zero female ministers.
