Diwali crackers burst in stock markets: Sensex-Nifty open up 1% in mid-session

Diwali celebrations have started across the country today. Diwali mood has set in the Indian stock market as crackers are bursting all around along with Lakshmi Pujan-Chopda Pujan. Even in Dalal Street, booming fireworks have started exploding today. Sensex-Nifty opened up 1% in the session itself, led by gains in heavyweights including HDFC Bank-Reliance-ICICI Bank.

The S&P BSE Sensex opened at 59,804 against Friday's closing price of 59,307 and the Nifty 50 index opened at 17,777.55. In the opening minutes, both the indices are trading at 59,938 and 17,763 levels, up 1.06-1.06% respectively.

Credit for today's market fireworks goes to Bajaj brothers-HDFC brothers and ICICI Bank. Today's top gainers include Larsen & Toubro.


Looking at the broader market, the BSE Midcap Index rose 0.75% and the BSE Smallcap Index rose 1.13%. Today, 2195 shares increased and 433 shares decreased at BSE. Upper circuit in 150 shares and lower circuit in 68 shares.
