Import of coal in India will be stopped by 2024

Ahmedabad. 21 October 2022, Friday
India has been facing severe power crisis for the last two years. Due to dwindling supply of domestic coal and significant increase in demand, the power plant situation is becoming dire. Looking at this situation, the government has issued huge coal import tenders in the last one and a half years, but now the government has announced a different policy in which it has been decided to stop the import of coal in the country by 2024.
Coal Minister Prahlad Joshi yesterday said that the import of coal has come down significantly and its import will be stopped by 2024. Addressing a program organized by the Office of the Comptroller and Auditor General, Joshi said that the current government has institutionalized auctioning of commercial coal mines, making the auction process fully transparent and unfettered.

The CAG office issued a 'Statement of Mineral and Energy Resources Assets' as part of the programme. Joshi praised the CAG office for this and said that the report presents a comprehensive picture of mineral resources in various states of the country. The information about this collection presented in the report will help to strengthen the sustainable mining process.
The report details all four fossil fuels—fossil fuels, 40 major minerals and 63 other minerals—from 28 states and one union territory.
